Tips to look great on your family photos

Let’s admit that choosing what to wear for photos can be very stressful! It’s enough to make anyone crazy, even photographers. I know what I’m talking about because I also like to take pictures with my family. But finding that perfect outfit (or family of outfits!) can make your shooting so much more styled and gorgeous, that you’ll be definitely happy with the result!

Choose neutral clothing

There are some colors that always will look great on the photos. And if you don’t know where to start-start with the color. Choose clothes from natural fabrics of pastel, powdery shades, cream. With a range from gray-blue to peach. Calm tea rose, gray, pleasant beige, mint. Pure black always looks great.

Do not take bright screaming tones, prints and inscriptions! Be more natural, fresh, lively!

Bright clothes tones also can give ugly shades to the skin. And photo post-processing ocan enhance these unnecessary effects.

Choose clothing that's comfy and flattering

Choose the things that suit you, that you really like and you feel 100% comfortable while wearing.

Put the selected sets together, take photos, evaluate how do the combinations look by yourself or send to your photographer :)

Try the outfits on and have someone take a picture of you from every angle. Choose you favorite angles in the mirror!

Choose colors from your home

Many of my family photo sessions take place in the comfort of the home. In this case it’s good to dress to coordinate with their home. Is your home light, bright and airy or moody and dark? What colors do you decorate with? What style do you lean towards? I also tell people to dress with no logos showing and muted colors, if possible, to enhance the timeless feel.

Fit your style to your location

Try to keep your session location in mind when choosing your outfit. If your session is happening in a city setting, dress up city casual or a bit with fancier dress than you’d normally wear to match the vibe of the city.

If you’ve selected a more natural environment, choose something a bit more casual, boho, free such as a maxi dress and opt for casual footwear like flat sandals or boots

Instead of worrying about how you look, let your kids be your focus

And the last tip for today is this one!

Try to be relaxed, natural and have fun during your session! Stop worrying about those extra few kilos you had hoped to lose or whatever. It will be so much better if focus your attention on showering your kids with love. Give them a snuggle, fly them up in the air, or play peek-a-boo. If you’ve hired a photographer, she will give you directions to help you look and feel your best!

Let your photographer do all the rest!
